Children take three maths papers:

  • Paper 1: Arithmetic, lasting 30 minutes.
  • Papers 2 and 3: Reasoning, with each paper taking 40 minutes.

Paper 1 consists of fixed response questions that require children to provide the correct answers to calculations, such as long multiplication and division. Papers 2 and 3 include various types of questions, such as:

  • Multiple choice
  • True or false
  • Constrained questions, for example, providing the answer to a calculation, drawing a shape, or completing a table or chart
  • Less constrained questions, where children are required to explain their methodology for solving a problem.
