Hedgehogs Castle Workshop

Hedgehogs class have had an exciting morning learning about castles.
Hedgehogs looked at photos of castles and discussed how castles were built and how they could be attacked. The children asked lots of thoughtful questions and enjoyed learning about the different ways castles were defended many years ago. They also learned how weaponry changed over time, from simple catapults and onagers to powerful cannons that could break through thick castle walls. The children were fascinated to hear how castles had to change and become stronger as weapons became more advanced.
During the visit, the children watched Peter launch an onager and a cannon, which helped bring their learning to life. They were excited to see how these weapons worked and to imagine what castle battles might have looked like in the past.
Back in the classroom, the children worked together to build their own sturdy castles using different materials. They then had the chance to launch an onager catapult at each other’s castles to test how strong their designs were. The activity encouraged teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving, and everyone had great fun taking part. What a fantastic day was had by all!
