Ladybirds Visit to the National Marine Aquarium

Our Reception children had a marvellous school trip to Plymouth Aquarium on Monday, creating wonderful memories and bringing their learning to life beyond the classroom.

They represented our school impeccably at all times, and the aquarium staff were full of praise, commenting on how polite, engaged and enthusiastic the children were throughout the visit. It was a pleasure to see them demonstrate such excellent behaviour and curiosity.

The children confidently drew upon their prior learning, eagerly discussing habitats and the different types of sea life they recognised. They showed great excitement as they identified familiar creatures and asked thoughtful questions, deepening their understanding of the underwater world. The guided tour of the aquarium was both engaging and inspiring, giving the children the opportunity to explore a wide variety of marine environments up close. A particular highlight of the day was meeting a mermaid, which truly captured the children’s imaginations, followed by a special storytelling session that they thoroughly enjoyed. The children also had the chance to see Plymouth Marina and the fishing boats, prompting further discussion about coastal life and how people work by the sea.

The journey itself was just as exciting, with everyone enjoying spotting Dartmoor ponies and sheep from the minibus, adding to the sense of adventure. The children were full of smiles, laughter and conversation from start to finish, although a little sleepy! Overall, it was a truly fantastic and enriching day for all, and we are incredibly proud of how wonderfully the children represented our school.
