Child Protection

We have a legal duty to act when we believe a child may be at risk of harm. This includes concerns relating to:

  • Neglect
  • Physical abuse
  • Emotional abuse
  • Sexual abuse
  • Domestic abuse
  • Child exploitation

Where necessary, concerns will be shared with external agencies to ensure children receive appropriate protection and support. In some circumstances, this may be done without parental consent if it is considered to be in the child's best interests or necessary to safeguard a child.

Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH)

The Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) brings together professionals from children's social care, education, health, police, and probation services to help protect children and young people.

If a professional, family member, or member of the public has concerns about a child or young person's safety or wellbeing, they can make a request for support through MASH.
