Primary and Nursery School
Beaford, Winkleigh, Devon EX19 8LJ
Beaford Community Primary & Nursery School is a thriving rural village school situated 5 miles from the near-by market town of Torrington. We are in the very fortunate position of having beautiful countryside right on the doorstep, enriching our learning environment.
We are proud of our building, which holds onto its history, but also provides an excellent space for learning. The front of the school is the original school house built in 1864. In the late 1990s the school was remodelled and extended with light and spacious classrooms. In 2003, a purpose built Early Years Foundation Stage unit was added allowing our Nursery to be fully integrated in the school. The school unfolds onto a large playing field, hard court, climbing equipment and outdoor shelter.
Our uncompromising aim is to offer your child rich, inspiring learning experiences through the curriculum we have designed which we will continue to grow and adapt to meet the ever changing needs of learners in tomorrow’s world. Whatever their starting point, we have high expectations for a child, with their learning outcomes, the development of their skills for learning and the growth of an individual’s spiritual, moral, physical and mental wellbeing.
All staff at our school have strong commitments to the development of the ‘whole child’. From their safety and wellbeing, manners and personal presentation to their individual progress in all areas of our curriculum, we work in partnership with parents to share and support your child’s learning journey and continue to learn and develop ourselves as professionals.
I look forward to welcoming you into our school community.
Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are advised to inform all parents and carers of our duty to report concerns that a child may have been neglected or abused to the relevant authorities. We may do so, in some circumstances, without your consent and/or without informing you.
The school's Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is Emily Mayo, the Deputy Safeguarding Lead is Joanna Clark.
The school's governor with responsibility for safeguarding is Rachel Hopkins.
MASH is the central resource for the whole of Devon receiving all safeguarding and child protection enquiries. If you have any concerns about the welfare and safety of a child please contact them on 0345 1551071.
