Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back everyone. It has been wonderful to see you all after the summer break. I know many of you have enjoyed some fantastic adventures with your children and enjoyed the fine weather we had. It has been lovely to hear the children excitedly telling us all about their summer.
This week
The first week back is always a good opportunity to remind ourselves of our purpose as a school and what we are trying to achieve. Beaford is a village school that sits at the heart of the community it serves. We are a place where children learn together and flourish together, and this sense of community is something we are very proud of.
In assembly this week, we discussed some of the things that make Beaford special and talked about how difficult it can sometimes be to return to school after a long summer break. New routines, new classrooms and new expectations can take a little time to get used to, but the children have settled back into school life really well.
In their classrooms, the children have also revisited our three school rules:
Be Ready
Be Respectful
Be Safe
We have talked about what these rules look like in different situations and how they help us to create a school where everyone feels safe, happy and ready to learn. By taking responsibility for our own behaviour and making positive choices, we all play a part in making Beaford such a lovely place to learn and play.
The children have also voted for their new school ambassadors. Our ambassadors represent the children in their classes and will have opportunities throughout the year to share their ideas, take on responsibilities and help make positive changes around school. We want our children to understand that this is their school and that they have an important role to play in making it the best it can be.
Being part of our school community
To help your child have the most successful experience at school, we ask that you support us wherever you can. This can be as simple as communicating regularly with your child’s teacher, taking an interest in their learning and making sure they complete their home learning and read regularly at home.
If you are able to go above and beyond these commitments, we always welcome opportunities to involve parents in school life. Please look out for opportunities to volunteer throughout the year, attend school events and celebrate the children’s achievements with us.
Our PTA, the Friends of Beaford, also organise regular fundraising events and activities for the children. These events make a real difference to school life, and any time you are able to give to support them is greatly appreciated.
We take great pride in being a community school and in knowing our children and families well. The relationships we build with you help us to understand your children as individuals and ensure that they receive the best possible care and education while they are with us.

Next week, Reverend Gary will lead our Monday assembly and officially welcome the children back to school.
Clubs start again. Lego is on Tuesdays and Football for KS2 Thursdays.
On Wednesday, Torrington Dental Practice will be visiting to talk to the children about looking after their teeth and the importance of good dental hygiene.
Ms Beattie has arranged for the RNLI to visit Hedgehogs on Friday to teach them about water safety and the important work they do to keep people safe around our coastline.
It has been a fantastic start to the new school year and we are looking forward to everything the year ahead will bring.
No doubt you’ll have some tired children at the end of the week but congratulate them for making their first steps toward another successful year at Beaford.
