Dear Parents and Carers,

As we head into the final full week of the school year, there is still no sign of things slowing down at Beaford! This time of year is always incredibly busy, but it is also one of the most enjoyable. There are so many opportunities for the children to celebrate everything they have achieved this year and to enjoy some memorable experiences with their friends before the summer holidays.
Sports Day
Yesterday's Sports Day was a fantastic afternoon. It was wonderful to see the children giving every event their very best while cheering on their friends and classmates throughout. At Beaford we always try to strike a balance between friendly competition and fun so that every child can enjoy taking part and experience success.
A huge thank you to all the parents, grandparents and family members who came along to support the children. Events like these always have such a lovely atmosphere and your encouragement means so much to the children. I'd also like to thank the Friends of Beaford for providing refreshments throughout the afternoon and all the staff for helping everything run so smoothly.
Nursery Sports Day
Our Nursery children also had a wonderful Sports Day on Tuesday afternoon. They tackled each race with huge smiles on their faces and showed enthusiasm throughout. It was lovely to see them encouraging one another, while older brothers and sisters cheered them on from the sidelines. Thank you to all the families who came along to support them and to Donna for putting on some top tier cakes so parents could get know each other as they begin their time at the school.
Cricket finals
On Wednesday, our Year 5 and 6 girls represented Beaford at the Devon Kwik Cricket Finals at Chudleigh Cricket Club. We are incredibly proud of how they represented both themselves and the school, finishing a very respectable third out of seven teams.
Summer Book Quest
This week, Torrington Library visited to launch this year's Summer Book Quest. The challenge encourages children aged 4 to 11 to keep reading over the summer holidays by completing fun reading activities and collecting stickers along the way. Children who complete the quest will receive a special medal. The challenge runs from 11th July to 12th September, so do pop into your local library over the summer to sign up and help keep your child's love of reading growing.
Transition Day
Today was our transition day, giving the children the opportunity to spend time with the teachers and classmates they will be working with in September. If your child has a new teacher next year, please stop by at collection time and introduce yourself to them.
Next week
It is our final full week of the year and we are certainly ending with a bang rather than winding down.
Reports: You will receive your child's end of year report next week. If you have any questions, comments or concerns after reading it, please do speak with your child's class teacher.
Hedgehogs and Reception will enjoy their Sporty Stars fun day, taking part in activities including archery, inflatable games and foot golf. Our Nursery children will also finish the day with their own inflatable games session. Otters and Owls will have their Sporty Stars activities on Monday 21st July.
Nursery are looking forward to their rescheduled beach trip on Tuesday. The current weather forecast looks much more promising and we're hopeful the trip will be able to go ahead. As always, we'll keep you updated should any weather warnings come into force.
On Wednesday, Otters are off to Rock and Rapids for an activity day, while Reception will be celebrating the end of the year with a picnic in the park.
Thursday afternoon is our Year 6 Leavers' Assembly, where we will formally say goodbye to our oldest children before they begin the next stage of their education. Parents are invited to stay afterwards for refreshments, and Donna will once again be preparing a special lunch menu designed by our Year 6 pupils.
On Friday, the whole school will take part in an Indian dance workshop. The children will learn about another culture, develop their dance skills and, most importantly, have a fantastic time together.
We look forward to a brilliant final full week with the children before the summer holidays.
