Dear Parents and Carers,

We like to keep our summer terms busy at Beaford, and this week and next are no different.
This week
There have been plenty of sporting opportunities: Owls joined other trust schools for a basketball festival on Tuesday, and around a dozen KS2 pupils took up the opportunity to watch some international cricket on Wednesday, attending the Women’s T20 match between India and England. Also this week, the children have done a sterling job completing their assessments, and it has been lovely to see how much progress they have made over the year.
Today is the annual PTA fundraiser: Break the Rules Day. Unfortunately, I will miss the anarchy as I am joining leaders from the TEAM Multi-Academy Trust for a training day at an education conference, but I am sure all the children will thoroughly enjoy their day.
Next week
Tuesday – Our Nursery school starters will have their sports afternoon. After some races and activities, parents are invited to the hall for tea and cake and a chance to get to know one another. The relationships you build with other parents in your child’s year group are extremely important, so we like to provide opportunities for these connections to begin as early as possible.
Wednesday – Some of the Owls will represent Beaford in the finals of the Devon girls’ cricket tournament.
Thursday – Our rearranged Sports Day will take place.
Friday – It is transition day. Please remember that children should be dropped off at their current class in the morning and collected from their new class at the end of the day. Full details are in the email sent earlier this week.
Staffing
There are a couple of staffing changes for next year, which you will have seen in the transition day email. Zoe Goddard is leaving us after four years at the school.
I would like to thank Zoe for her dedication to the school and the children during her time with us. She has been invaluable in her roles as an SEN teaching assistant and classroom teaching assistant. In addition to these roles, she has been an integral part of the OPAL team, helping to provide the children with such a rich playtime experience, and has been the driving force behind acquiring and caring for the school pets we have accumulated over the last few years. She will be greatly missed by both staff and children, and we wish her every success in the future.
Zoe’s breakfast club duties will be taken on by Hayley Bond, who will now run breakfast club every day of the week.
Mr Wright will continue to teach Otters but will be reducing his teaching commitment to four days a week. I will be teaching Otters on Fridays and am looking forward to sharing my teaching time across the two classes.
We look forward to seeing you all on Monday. Hopefully I’m waking up to news of an England win against Mexico!
Enjoy your weekend.
