Dear Parents and Carers,

I’ve been on residential this week with our Year 6 children in Bude. This is always one of the highlights of the year for me and them. This week has been no different. It’s been wonderful to see our children flourishing. While they’ve been here, they’ve been trying new and challenging activities such as mountain boarding, caving, surfing and high ropes, all while facing fears and pushing themselves out of their comfort zones.
However, the biggest area of growth I see on residentials is in the children’s independence. They organise themselves for activities without their parents, manage their own belongings and routines, and develop their collaboration and friendship-building skills with children from across the trust. Seeing familiar faces before secondary school will hopefully help many of them feel more confident about the next stage of their lives.
I’ve had reports of the other children having a lovely week in school. Mr Wright’s Mad About Maths Day was a huge success on Wednesday. The children experienced the fun of problem solving and worked brilliantly together on the challenges they were set. Year 5 Bikeability has also run smoothly and the children have all improved their cycling and road safety skills. I’m looking forward to getting back this afternoon to see Hedgehogs creations from their castle building session.
It sounds like we have a run of good weather ahead, which is fantastic news for the half term. I hope you all get some time to relax and enjoy spending time with your children. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Tuesday 2nd June.
Enjoy the bank holiday and half term.
