Dear Parents and Carers,
This Week
We had a brilliant start to the week, as Monday’s assembly was an opportunity to celebrate the success of our Exmoor Challenge team. Not only did they have the courage to enter and put themselves to the test with a gruelling 16-mile, adult-free walk across Exmoor, but they also completed Saturday’s challenge in a fantastic time. It was wonderful to see them showcasing their hard-earned medals to the other children and acting as role models for our younger year groups, who I hope will also challenge themselves when they reach Year 6.
It also gave me an opportunity to talk to the children about the importance of not being daunted or put off by difficult or challenging things. I want the children to know that they are tough and capable of doing tough things. They need not be afraid of hard work or of experiencing the full spectrum of human emotion. Physical challenges demonstrate this perfectly. I know there were times when our Year 6s wanted the challenge to end, but they persevered through the rain, aches and pains to achieve something they can look back on with pride.
Well done to our Exmoor Challenge children, and a big thank you to Jane and the parents for supporting them on Saturday.
Next Week
Our Year 6s have been working hard to prepare for their SATs exams and next week all that hard work comes to fruition as they sit the tests each morning. We wish them the very best of luck, but I know they have put the effort into their preparation, so we will be proud of them whatever the outcome. Our Year 5s will be working with coaches from Exeter City while the Year 6s sit their tests.
Over the past few weeks Jo, Anna and Chrissie have been sorting out our back room to make it a intervention space for SEN children. On Wednesday, the children will host a party to celebrate the opening of our news Busy Bees room. They’ve made cakes, written invitations and have invited all the staff to the event. Which promises to be fantastic.
On Thursday, Otters will have their annual trip to Rosemoor where they will learn about the importance of eating nutritious food and where it comes from.
Hedgehogs are also in for a treat on Friday, as they have an all-day workshop all about castles. I understand it involves some role play, so I’m hoping all the school walls stay intact despite the Hedgehogs children playing at being rampaging invaders!
Enjoy your weekend, we look forward to seeing you all on Monday.
