Dear Parents and Carers,
I received the news yesterday of Ian Thomas’ resignation. Ian has served the Beaford school community since we joined the TEAM Multi-Academy Trust in 2022. I would like to thank him personally for the support he has given me as a headteacher, and for his dedication to the children and families of Beaford.
Ian has been a fantastic mentor and manager over the past few years. He was integral in helping us showcase the very best of Beaford during our Ofsted inspection last year, set up our partnership with SDM School in India, and worked closely with our Local Governing Body to ensure our governance is both fair and thorough. All the staff at Beaford wish him the very best of luck in the next step of his life and career.
This week
There has been a noticeable buzz around the library this week. Ms Cannon and our librarians have reorganised the non-fiction books to make it easier for children to find texts that interest them. If your child brings home a book that is above their reading level but on a topic they enjoy, please do read it with them. Our aim is for all children to develop a love of reading and to feel excited by books.
Rev. Gary led an assembly on the Garden of Eden, focusing on looking after the planet and how Christians find hope and love through their faith. This linked nicely to last week’s assembly about the importance of having a positive inner voice.
It seems we saved many of the exciting events for the end of the week. Today, Otters are enjoying their Egypt Day, which is their big event for the half term. As we couldn’t quite take them to the pyramids, we invited an expert in instead. “Mr Egypt” has brought his historical expertise to Beaford for a full day of immersive learning about the Ancient Egyptians.
Today also sees the Owls girls attending a cricket festival to promote women’s cricket and celebrate the upcoming World Cup this summer.
The Exmoor Challenge takes place on Saturday. Four of our Year 6 pupils are representing Beaford in a 16-mile hike across Exmoor. They have been training over the past few weeks and are looking forward to representing the school tomorrow. Whatever the outcome, I am extremely proud of them for taking on the challenge and stepping outside of their comfort zones to try something new.
