Dear Parents and Carers,
What a start we’ve had to the Summer term. It was lovely to see the children return so refreshed after their Easter break and to hear all about the fun they had during the holiday. The children settled quickly back to the school routine and have been enjoying their playtimes in the sunshine this week.
This week
In Monday’s assembly, we talked about our PSHE topic for this term: relationships. We focused on the importance of having a positive relationship with yourself and being your own best friend. Many of our children are extremely reflective and set high standards for themselves, which are very important attributes. However, it is also essential that they do not become overly critical when they make a mistake or develop a poor self-image.
We will be promoting this message throughout PSHE lessons this term, as well as teaching the children about healthy relationships with others—what they look like and how to maintain them.
We have had students from GTS join us for their work experience this week. They have been a wonderful addition to the school, and all the staff have been impressed with how mature and confident they are. They have also helped Ms Cannon to reorganise our library this week, and I know she has some excellent ideas for how to further improve it in the coming months.
On Thursday, we were lucky enough to take part in the English Cricket Board’s (ECB) promotion of the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup. Professional cricket coach and Beaford alumni, Paul Heard, came in to deliver sessions to the children. They had a fantastic time, and it was wonderful to see them all playing together. The ECB is working to make cricket the most inclusive team sport in England, and that was certainly evident in the sessions we had. If you would like your child to attend some cricket sessions this summer or are looking to join a team, there are details of local clubs in the newsletter.
Next week
Rev Gary will be delivering an assembly on Monday. He is taking over from Rev Ally on the school’s governing body and will be in regularly during the Summer term to share Bible stories with the children, often linked to animals.
On Wednesday (2:45–3:30pm), our SENCo, Kate Ashley, will be running a session for parents about Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). These are legal documents for children with additional needs that outline the support they are entitled to. If you would like to know more about the application process and eligibility criteria, please do come along. The session is open to all parents, although Kate will not be able to discuss individual cases.
On Friday, the Owls girls will take part in a cricket festival at Hatherleigh Cricket Club to develop their skills and celebrate the upcoming World Cup.
Enjoy your weekend. Long may the sunshine last!
