Dear Parents and Carers,
It’s been another busy and rewarding week at Beaford. Thank you to everyone who attended parent consultations. It was lovely to welcome you into school and to talk through your children’s progress. Strong communication between home and school is such an important part of supporting children, and it’s something we really value as a small village school where we know our families well. It’s also been fantastic to see so many of you attending class assemblies this term - Well done to Reception for their incredible performance in their class assembly this morning.
This week
In Monday’s assembly, we discussed Eid and how different cultures celebrate important events in different ways. The children were able to draw on their learning from Religion and Worldviews lessons and shared some great knowledge about different faiths and traditions. It’s always pleasing to see them showing such respect and curiosity about the world around them.
We’ve also had some exciting additions to our resources this week. Thanks to IT funding from the TEAM multi-academy trust, we have taken delivery of a new set of laptops. This means that every child from Year 1 to Year 6 now has access to their own device during computing lessons.
You may also have noticed that we’ve had builders on site this week. We are having a canopy installed alongside the school, which will give us greater flexibility to use our outdoor spaces throughout the year. Being able to learn and work outside, whatever the weather, is something we’re keen to develop further as part of providing a broad and engaging curriculum for all children.
Hedgehogs had a wonderful trip to Rosemoor on Thursday. It was lovely to see how excited they were, and the visit really brought their learning to life. They learnt about food production and explored the gardens at a beautiful time of year - an experience I’m sure they’ll remember for a long time.
Next week
Next week is just as busy. On Monday, Reception will be heading to Plymouth Aquarium to learn more about life in our oceans and to deepen their understanding of the natural world. Also on Monday, our parent governor, Holly Stevens, will be in school to look at our personal development and wellbeing provision. She will also be working with the Owls, sharing her art expertise to support their mixed media project.
On Tuesday, our year 6, Exmoor Challenge group will take part in their third practice walk. They will travel to Exmoor to work alongside other TEAM Multi-Academy Trust pupils and outdoor education students from PETROC, developing their map reading and compass skills in preparation for the main event.
On Wednesday, we have a SATs information meeting for Year 6 parents after school, where we will talk through the upcoming assessments in May. On Wednesday, teachers will also be meeting with colleagues from across the trust to plan for next half term. These shared planning opportunities are invaluable in helping us continue to develop our curriculum and deliver a wide range of opportunities.
Thursday brings a PTA cake sale after school. Cakes will be 50p, so please send children in with some change if they would like to take part. If you’re able to donate any baked goods, please do get in touch with Sam, Ellie or Sally—your support is always hugely appreciated.
Finally, on Friday, there is a PTA fundraising event. It’s “Mad March Hair Day!” For a small donation, children are invited to come into school with the craziest, most creative hairstyle they can come up with. We’re looking forward to seeing some fantastic creations!
Enjoy your weekend. Let’s hope the sunshine lasts.
