Dear Parents and Carers,
This week we welcomed the Mental Health Support Team (MHST) into school. The MHST is a new NHS service commissioned to work with schools across Devon and Torbay, as well as in the wider community. They provide early intervention support to help children and young people with their mental health and emotional wellbeing, including individual and group low-intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (Li-CBT) interventions that are evidence based and carefully targeted.
This service is being introduced by Devon County Council and we are amongst the first schools in the region to work alongside them. Having access to this support is incredibly valuable and allows us to respond earlier when children are experiencing difficulties. Please continue to keep us informed of any worries or struggles your child may be having, as sharing this information helps us to put the right support in place at the right time.
Circus workshops
Today, every child had the opportunity to explore some hidden talents during our circus skills workshops. The children practised a wide range of circus skills, including spinning plates, poi, juggling, diabolo and devil sticks, all under the expert guidance of our circus master for the day. It was wonderful to see children showing perseverance, confidence and teamwork as they tried something completely new. For many, it was a real reminder that learning doesn’t always happen at a desk and that developing resilience and self-belief can be just as important as academic success.
Next week
Tuesday is Holocaust Memorial Day. I am passionate about history and firmly believe that the best way to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past is through education and understanding. I will deliver an assembly on Monday, giving the children an age-appropriate explanation of why we commemorate the Holocaust. On Tuesday, the Owls will take part in additional learning to develop a deeper understanding of events during the Second World War.
On Wednesday, staff will meet with teachers from across the trust to plan for the next half term, ensuring that our curriculum continues to meet the needs of all our children. On Thursday, the Friends of Beaford will be holding a cake sale, so please remember to bring some pennies and enjoy some delicious homemade treats.
Enjoy your weekend,
George Myers
