Dear Parents and Carers
What a week it’s been! In true Beaford style, it has been a busy one, with every class having something special to enrich their curriculum and get the children excited about their learning.
This week
On Monday, 277 children from across the TEAM Multi-Academy Trust competed in a cross-country event. The Beaford children excelled, not only performing brilliantly but also behaving wonderfully and showing fantastic sportsmanship throughout the event. We came home with four gold medals, a silver medal and several top-ten finishes. I was incredibly proud of them all.
Hedgehogs and Otters enjoyed a visit from Exmoor Zoo this week. The children have been learning about how scientists classify animals, and they had the fantastic opportunity to see a meerkat, a snake and stick insects up close. It was a brilliant way to bring their science learning to life.
We have also been lucky enough to welcome authors from the Appledore Book Festival into school this week. On Wednesday, Ladybirds and Hedgehogs met author and illustrator Duncan Beedie, who taught the children how to draw his Bear character. On Thursday, Owls and Otters were treated to a visit from Swashbuckle star and children's author Joseph Elliott, who inspired them to create their own piece of creative writing about a monster. It has been fantastic to see the children's enthusiasm for books, stories and writing.
Homework reminders
We have seen some incredible efforts from the children with their home learning. It is lovely to see them getting into the routine of weekly practice of their core skills, as well as seeing the extra writing, drawing and creative work that they are choosing to do at home off their own backs.
A quick reminder for parents of Otters and Owls to make a note in the parent section of the homework book about the activities your child has completed. For Ladybirds and Hedgehogs, please continue to complete the children's reading records regularly so that we can keep up to date with their reading at home and how they are progressing.
Next week
We have another busy week ahead.
On Monday, Reverend Gary will be joining us to deliver our assembly before staying on for a governor visit. He will be looking at our Busy Bees provision, which supports our children with additional needs.
We are also celebrating World Animal Day on Monday and are very grateful to The Sign Maker Company in High Bickington, who are kindly donating something to support wildlife in our playground. We are really looking forward to seeing how this develops.
On Thursday, the circus is coming to town! Treetops Circus will be putting on a special show for the children, with the aim of promoting reading and encouraging a love of books. We are very excited to welcome them to Beaford.
On Friday, we will be supporting World Mental Health Day. The children can come to school wearing yellow. This could be a single item of clothing or a full yellow outfit if they wish!
We will also be talking to the children about the importance of recognising and understanding our feelings, while making sure they do not become barriers to living a full and happy life.
