HOME LEARNING

Our aim for Home Learning is to provide opportunities for:

Children to share and talk about their learning in school

Consolidate and reinforce important reading, spelling and maths skills

Develop independent learning and enquiry skills

In Owls (Years 5 & 6) and Otters (Years 3 & 4) – Key Stage 2

Tasks are set on a Friday – they are explained in detail to the children in class and outlined on the websites.

Each child has a Home Learning book.

Home learning is to be given to the teacher on Tuesday for marking and feedback.

Tasks may be completed on the computer and then stuck into books or emailed into school.

Tasks are linked to the current learning either to consolidate learning or to be used in class the next week.

Teachers will set a range of tasks covering different areas of the curriculum. 

Tasks for children in Owls should take 30 minutes.

Tasks for children in Otters should take 20 minutes.

As well as given tasks children it is expected that children are regularly reading and sharing books, learning spellings and multiplication tables.

In Hedgehogs (Years 1 & 2) – Key Stage 1

Home learning tasks set on a Friday – these are optional and designed as a talking point for parents and children. An outcome is not required to be brought to school. 

Reading, phonics/spelling of common exception words and key maths facts are expected on a frequent basis and should be the main focus of all home learning.

In Ladybirds (Reception)

Reading, phonics/spelling of tricky words and key maths facts are expected on a frequent basis and should be the main focus of all home learning
