Chair of Governors - Matthew Millichope

I have worked in local government for 23 years, currently in the employment of Torridge District Council as an Environmental Protection Officer.

I have two sons who attend Beaford Community Primary and Nursery School and, since their admission, have watched and experienced their impressive development assisted in the main by the attentive and caring nature of the teaching staff.  I have a very keen interest to ensure the school continues to deliver high standards of education in a caring and supportive environment. As well as being keen to promote a good education to all children, I also recognise the need to have and participate in activities and interests outside of the school environment.  For example, my sons attend swimming lessons and show a general interest in sport.  Recently as a family we participated in a charity run raising a significant amount of money in the process.

As a Mum to a child starting education, I wanted to be involved in school life somehow.  Governors felt the right way to go, as I work as an Accountant in a large food manufacturing company and I felt I could bring these skills to the board.  However, I feel being a Governor at Beaford School has certainly taught me more than I could ever bring to them!!

Having worked at Beaford since 2012 I am firmly committed to ensuring that every child receives the very best, rich and inspiring curriculum possible. My new role allows me to use this passion to support the school in having a greater positive impact on the future of every child.

As staff governor I am looking forward to the challenges ahead and working together with the wonderfully dedicated team of governors here at Beaford.

Rachel Hopkins

I am a Mum to 2 children, a boy and girl, both attending Beaford. They have both benefitted from a great start to their education and I feel a responsibility in making sure Beaford continues to be the great school that it already is.  I have lived in the local area all my life and attended Beaford school as a child so have good knowledge of the surrounding villages and towns which feed into Beaford and know many families within the school both past and present

As a qualified primary teacher, I feel I have knowledge and understanding of the curriculum and expectations put on pupils and staff and will be able to bring this knowledge and understanding to the role of parent governor. I have been teaching for 12 years across North Devon in a variety of schools and have particular knowledge of the Early Years and KS1 curriculum.

Jacque Ward

I currently work as PA to the Archdeacon of Barnstaple, a role I have held for 15 years. This work includes providing personal assistance, administration support and occasionally catering for business meetings, liaising with and supporting local church members, clergy, diocesan personnel and the Bishop’s Staff on matters that can be of a highly confidential nature, often pastoral.

I volunteer for Farming Community Network which involves attending Young Farmers meetings, local agricultural shows and when required working alongside someone in a time of need as a Caseworker.

As a Reader (Licensed Lay Minister) in the Church of England I lead activity sessions for families in the Two Rivers Mission Community and in the past have led Sunday School, Youth Clubs and was a secretary for Roborough Youth Judo club and am currently PCC Secretary for Roborough Church.
Saffron Murphy

We moved to Beaford four years ago from Bath, with one of the big reasons for our move being the want to bring up our children in the countryside. I myself attended a tiny primary school in France (there were on average 9 of us!) and although Beaford school is significantly larger than that, it is still small enough to have that warm atmosphere that I have good memories of.

I carried on my education up to degree level with a BSc in Physics and worked as a Software Engineer before becoming a full-time Mum for the last seven years. With our three boys now all attending Beaford school and nursery I am keen to be more involved with the school, and have recently been enjoying helping out at PTA events.

Jim Thomas

I am currently the owner / manager of The Globe Inn Public House in Beaford a varied role which includes looking after all aspects of financial accounts, negotiating and liaising with suppliers, ensuring procedures are up-to-date and followed, marketing and brand management, public relations and customer service. ‚Äč
