We welcome parents into the school at the start and end of the school day. If you have any concerns or information the class teacher needs to know you can drop into the classroom and share these or arrange a suitable time to meet. Alternatively please contact the school office and arrange a time to meet the class teacher.
Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are advised to inform all parents and carers of our duty to report concerns that a child may have been neglected, harmed or not thriving to the relevant authorities. We may do so, in some circumstances, without your consent and/or without informing you.
If you are eligible for the school bus you will need to apply for a pass from Devon County Council. The transport team can be contacted on 0845 155 1019 and they will also advise you about what time and where your child will be picked up from and collected.
When collecting or dropping your children at school please park by the hedge on Green Lane or at the village hall. Please do not park on the main road running through Beaford as this becomes very busy or in the school lay-by. If you drive your child to school you may like to consider sharing lifts with other families who live nearby.
If your child is new to the school, we will make sure you are introduced to your child’s new teacher. Please ensure any specific needs your child has is shared with the teacher so that their transition to the new class is as smooth as possible. The class teacher will arrange meeting with you after a few weeks to share with you how your child is settling in.
The details of weekly home learning tasks are on the weekly email and on our website. Children in Otters and Owls have a weekly home learning task which they are expected to complete in their home learning book and hand in to their teacher – usually on a Tuesday. Home learning tasks are given for children in Hedgehogs but these are optional.
Each term we have a sharing assembly where parents and grandparents are welcome to come and celebrate the children’s learning. Each term a curriculum overview is sent home. This contains information about your child’s learning for the term.
For detailed information about what assessments your child will be part of for each school year and when we will report your child’s progress to you, please refer to the information sheet about your child’s learning journey. This can also be found on the school website.
Our uniform is a blue sweatshirt or cardigan with the school logo on, white or blue polo shirt with or without the school logo, grey or black trousers, shorts or skirt and sensible black school shoes. Summer dresses may be worn in the warmer weather. School uniform can be purchased from Instant Images, South Street, Torrington. School book bags costing £5.00 are available from the school office.
All children need a PE kit in school. This needs to be a plain t-shirt, dark shorts, trainers and or plimsolls and tracksuit for colder weather. Green PE hoodies which can have your child’s initials embroidered on are available at Instant Images.
Parents need to register on ParentMail to receive all communications from the school via email. Consent for school trips and all payments are also made online through your ParentMail account. Details of how to register will be provided when your child starts school.
All Children in Reception and KS1 receive free school meals. For all other children a 2 course hot meal costs £2.30.
